Since 2018, the Larviculture Lab has been conducting collaborative research to create dependable larviculture strategies for the marine finfish aquaculture industry. Using recirculating aquaculture production systems (RAS), we are working principally with domesticated Striped Bass (DSB), Morone saxatilis. DSB is a premium species, highly marketable and well suited for increased commercialization in NC and the Atlantic coastal U.S. (Anderson et. al, 2022). At this time, a the greatest bottlenect to commercialization with DSB in RAS are related to efficient rearing methods from larvae rearing through metamorphosis. To address these challenges, Efforts in larval rearing methods, nutrition, feed manufacture and design, and automated feeding systems, continue to be our research focus. We will be updating this site to showcase our work throughout the year.
